Curator's comments
The painting was commissioned by Tooth in 1898, and they sold it the following year to Knoedler, New York, and is currently untraced, see V.G. Swanson, 'The Biography and Catalogue Raisonné of the Paintings of Sir Lawrence Alma-Tadema', 1990, no. 389.
