- Curator's comments
- This is the earliest known drawing by Chantrey of the sitter in preparation either for a bust or in anticipation of the need for a profile for coinage just prior to the death of George IV on 26 June 1830. For another also made with a camera lucida in July 1820 in the BM, see 1904,0307.25. As the inscrition records the present drawing was lent to Wyon to faciliate his making dies for the new coinage and coronation medal (for an example in the BM: M.6099)
