- Printed by Terry Wilson of Palm Tree Studios, London and published by James Kirkman, London and Brooke Alexander, New York in an edition of 50 plus 15 artist’s proofs. This impression is a studio proof outside of the edition. The proof was printed on Buff paper while the full edition was printed on Cream Velin Arches paper.
Bruce Bernard (1928-2000) was a British writer, picture editor and photographer. He and Freud were friends, having first met in 1942. After sitting for this etching in 1985, Bernard sat for Freud for two paintings in the 1990s. In turn, Bernard photographed Freud on several occasions.
