- Curator's comments
- For the series 'Musée Grotesque', see 1866,0407.954. This plate was entered in the 'Bibliographie de la France' for 1 March 1823.
This satirical etching is part of a series numbering at least 65 prints, which depict various 'types' from French society. Godisart de Cari seems to have designed the whole series and etched some of the images, although this plate from later in the sequence bears the name of Maloeuvre. Cari's name as designer is still included, inscribed on the jug on the dentist's side table.
