- John Christian purchased the drawing along with 7 other Poynter landscapes from Abbott & Holder. He retained the invoice, no: 021450, dated 27.06.08 which provides the following information:
"Drawings by Sir E.J. Poynter P.R.A.
Prov: the Baldwin Family"
This landscape is listed as follows:
"81008/ 54 Studland."
The drawings are described in Abbott & Holder's list 389, June/ July 2008 in which nos: 132-169 are landscapes. These drawings are listed with the following introduction:
"Poynter, Sir Edward PRA (1836-1919)
These have the same family Provenance as those in our recent Exhibition of his figure drawings and portraits and provide a great chance for those interested in him as a landscape painter."
