- Acquired by The British Museum in mounted on brown card, annotated verso: "George Pinwell (1842-1875)" in a wooden frame painted gold.
With a Colnaghi label (address at 14 Old Bond Street) on the back of the frame.
"To Margaret and Jim from Roddy and Ursula, Christmas 1959."
Jim named in the inscription is perhaps James Byam Shaw (known as Jim) who had worked for Colnaghi and, later, with John Christian at Christ Church Picture Gallery.
The drawing was Lot 97 in the sale of an anonymous collection; Christie's, London, 13 November 1992, lot 97 (withdrawn).
