John Christian purchased this drawing from the Maas Gallery. He retained the invoice No 2043, dated 7th January 2002 which provides the following information:

Sir Joseph Noel Paton, RSA (1821-1901)
Study of a couple.
Pen and Ink on paper;
4 1/2 x 5 3/4 inches."
Annotated on the secondary mount "13757", presumably a stock number or collection number.
