- Curator's comments
- The frontispiece to a suite of 17 loose colour aquatints presented in a folder at the back of George Rouault's 'Passion', with text by André Suarès (1939). (For more information about the book, see the curatorial comment to 2018,7027.1).
The suite is introduced by a four-page 'Table des hors-texte de 'Passion'', which has small images of each of the 17 aquatints, printed in black, showing the order and the page numbers that they relate to. The suite comprises the frontispiece and 16 plates (2018,7027.1.1-17). It was produced by Rouault in 1935 and 1936 and published by Ambroise Vollard, who also commissioned the book, in 1939. Rouault worked on the plates himself and they were printed in Paris by Roger Lacourière.
