- Curator's comments
- Garrido often works with postcards, concerned with their collecting and categorising as well as their artistic manipulation. Exploring the nature of art-space, Garrido meticulously paints out in acrylic the work itself from the postcard. Both of these works were made while studying in 2011 for her MA at Wimbledon College of Art, where her Finals show was entirely of postcard-related material. The artist writes: 'My intervention consists in partially concealing the artwork from the postcard. This removal is negative only in appearance, as, on the mechanically reproduced artwork, I add a layer of paint that turns the postcard into a unique object, altering its perceived value.'
