Description
Heading to the King's Letters Patent granted to Phineas Crowther for his invention of applying the power of the reciprocating steam engine to the crank or rotative axis for driving machinery: royal coat-of-arms on a shield surmounted by a crown resting against a lion and unicorn; behind is a tree with two branches; on the left grow a thistle, a shamrock and a rose; rectangular mark at top right. 1809; this impression March, 2017. This impression was one of seven taken by Peter Freeth RA in March 2017 from the original plate in the possession of Nigel Tattersfield. Tattersfield notes that Bewick charged 3s 3d for each impression.
