- The drawing was made on the back of a lithographic poster that had been cut into several pieces; this was formerly the lower right part of a colour lithographic poster printed by Chr. Sørensen & Co showing the lettering '.SLESVIG/ .em/.VATIVT'. Pedersen at this time had very little money for materials and resorted to drawing on the back of cut-up posters. In the autumn of 1948 Pedersen returned from six months in Iceland and became a founding member of the new artists' group CoBRA.
