Label text for this album in 2018-19 recent acquisitions exhibition:
This album by the Swiss-born Grimm contains 115 drawings: some were removed before the sale but were presented with it. The donors wanted to ensure these drawings that document Grimm’s training in France with Jean-Georges Wille stay together. During this time he studied topography and landscape, and travelled with Jacob Philip Hackert and Nicolas Pérignon. It also provides clues to his later career in London which began in 1768.
