Auerbach's continual fascination for capturing and constantly re-examining the capital city remains unabated. He has called London:
'This extraordinary, marvellously unpainted city...This higgledy-piggledy mess of a city.' He has spent almost sixty years in the same studio and it is here that he has also produced countless portraits of his close circle of friends which from 1991 to 2008 included Ruth Bromberg. The Bomberg's bequest ensures that Auerbach's works on paper add another valuable dimension to his output as an artist.
