- Curator's comments
- This is from a group of acrylics on paper that relate to the artist's stained-glass windows project for Westminster Abbey's Henry VII Lady Chapel that was commissioned by the Dean and Chapter for the 60th anniversary of Queen Elzabeth II's coronation. The artist notes in the brochure that accompanied the Marlborough Gallery exhibition: 'The original windows were created at the beginning of the 16th century and the name of the artist was Flower. My proposal for these Lady Chapel windows was to use the Lily, traditionally a symbol of the Virgin to whom the chapel is dedicated and Royalty with whom it is associated, as the central motif placed against a symbolically rendered starry night sky'.
