- Philip Attwood notes that in the handwritten index accompanying the album lists the sitter as Mr Vaughan. This identification is repeated in an inscription in a later hand at the bottom of the album page:
'He is perhaps the preacher and incumbent of Christ Church, Brighton, at whose services Wyon records his attendance on four occasions in 1859-62 in his diary. Brighton was one of the seaside resorts favoured by the Wyon family, and it was there that William Wyon was taken ill and died in 1851.'
(P. Attwood, ‘A Group of Drawings by Leonard Wyon’, ‘The Medal’, no.31, 1997, (40))
One of a group of 71 portrait drawings (2012, 7076.1-71). 42 of these are loose and 29 are pasted into an album, of which this is one. It is mounted on page 37. For full description and comment see 2012, 7076.1.
