Cries of Paris, four rows of five compartments each; each compartment contains the caricature of a street-trader, with top row showing, from left to right, a man repairing pans and pots, a woman selling waffles (known as 'plaisirs'), a cobbler, a woman selling flowers, a man collecting bottles; second row, a match-seller, a man selling a refreshing drink known as 'coco', a grocer, a man selling cheap periodicals, a woman selling oranges; third row, a man carrying two pails and selling water, a woman carrying a large flat tray and selling walnuts, a man selling rat poison, a woman selling salted mackerel, a knife sharpener; and bottom row, a man carrying lumps of peat in a wicker basket he carries on his back, a man selling rabbit skins, a woman selling hot pears, a young chimney-sweep, and a man selling clothes
