Description
Grid of small satirical scenes, each with caption; at centre, 'The law of libel', showing two men arguing over a notice; on the left, 'Knock and ring' shows a woman beating her husband, while 'Lord Thimblerig & his tail going a dirty way for a place!' shows a man in a top hat entering the sewers, which lead to the Cabinet, while several men ride his rat tail; on the right, 'Too knowing to live long' shows a man and a woman discussing a feeble-minded child; below, 'Cocker the 2nd curring off the supplies' shows two men sawing off the tap of the National Reservoir of money whilst rebuffing a man (William IV) carrying two buckets bearing the words 'debt', 'civil list', 'army', 'navy'; at the top is a row of eight lone figures, formerly holders of high offices but now victims of the stagnation and looking for low jobs; at the bottom are five small scenes, one of them alludes to the death of Emperor Francis II of Austria. 1835 Hand-coloured lithograph
