- Curator's comments
- This is the twenty-third plate from a series of forty-eight numbered etchings showing landscapes, views of villages, farms, gates and castles; for comment on the series see the impression of the frontispiece 2011,7073.1.
This print was etched by the Doetecum brothers around 1559-1561 on one plate with no.21 (New Hollstein 134; first state), printed together on one sheet and subsequently trimmed by the publisher Hieronymus Cock; Philips Galle cut the plates in two around 1601 and published them as separate prints in this second edition.
