- Curator's comments
- Wrongly described as a copy by Bocher. The plate was finished by Jacques Couché (IFF 45) and advertised in 'Gazette de France', 22 October 1784; 'Annonces, affiches et avis divers', 29 October 1784; 'Journal de Paris', 11 November 1784; and in 'Mercure', 27 November 1784.
The scene shows Colin the shepherd with Babet the farmer girl in scene X from 'Les Sabots', an opera-comique written by Cazotte and Sedain with music by Duni, first performed on 26 October 1768. See same subject by Boucher, 1869,0410.2159.
