- Blake's appropriation of Brancusi's curleycue drawing - the circular lines symbolising the exfoliation of Joyce's mind countered by the straight lines of his intellectual rigour - was contested by the Brancusi estate and an embargo placed on its sale. For copyright reasons the same fate befell two other plates: Brancusi's Portrait of Joyce and Joyce's Dance by Desmond Harmsworth.
