Portrait of a woman in 18th century dress; full-length seated to right, head tilted upwards, holding a child which rubs its head; the lady's hair is dressed high and frizzed, under a large broad-brimmed hat, and she wears a lace-trimmed shawl loosely over her arm and around her waist and a gown with a broad lace collar; in a wood, with a shaggy dog sitting in front of them; etched state.
