- Curator's comments
- David Solkin (email Feb 2024): This, like the impression of an earlier state also in the BM, is entitled 'Le Patissier', and is indeed an illustration to Sterne's Sentimental Journey. Smith exhibited a print bearing this title at the Society of Artists in 1775 (226); the impression in the Huntington Library identifies the artist as Andreas van Rymsdyk and bears the publication date 10 April 1775 (publ. by Smith and Thomas Bradshaw). The BM's record to the contrary, the print is in D'Oench's catalogue raisonne, no.58.
