- The first plate in a series of five, housed in the original card wrapper, which is signed, titled and numbered 14/50. 'Open House' is a way of selling property used in the USA, by which on an announced day the house is opened to the world and anyone may look around it before making an offer. Each print shows a different room, in which varied potential purchasers of a house are behaving in the way of strangers in other people's space. The five interiors that they are inspecting contain a gentle satire on modern manners of living.
This portfolio was published in an edition of 50 with 10 artist's proofs and was printed at Rhode Island School of Design in Providence, USA. The copperplates were engraved between 2004 and 2008. Raftery commenced work on the project in 2002, first constructing scale models of the scenes with wax figures for each of the characters from which he made drawings.
The series was shown at the Mary Ryan Gallery, New York from 18 October to 26 November 2008.
