Bookplate for Sir M Monier-Williams; stylised design incorporating a view of the Indian Institute, Oxford, hung against a backdrop of a stream, among the snaking stems of flowers which rise on the near bank, weaving through a scroll lettered 'Sir M. Monier-Williams' and supporting an image of the Ashoka Chakra; a bulb lettered 'Ex Libris' at the base; the far bank in the upper image, with a path and trees hung with two crests and a scroll bearing the motto 'Dominus Illuminatio Mea'. 1897

- Bengough also produced a smaller version of the design (see 2006,U.1278). It is included in his book 'Composite Bookplates'. He exhibited both the bookplate for Sir Monier Monier-Williams and the design in separate frames (nos. 1, 2) in the Seventh Annual Exhibition of the Ex Libris Society, held at the Westminster Palace Hotel on the 13th and 14th June 1898.
