From the early 1980s Richard Deacon has been one of Britain's leading sculptors and draughtsmen, winning the Turner prize in 1987. This and 'Some interference 19' (2006,0930.8) come from a series of drawings begun while artist in residence at the Oxford Centre for the Study of Gene Function in 2005. In these pen and ink drawings he attempted to interpret a complex interwoven surface that was difficult to bring into focus.
