- Curator's comments
- Petitjean and Wickert did not know any example of the print as used for a thesis, though they suspected that it was made for one. The discovery of this example at auction in Paris proves that it was a thesis, and also gives the date of the examination, 1 August 1662. This therefore must have been more or less the date of the engraving. The printer is given as the widow of Robert Meverelli in Alençon. It was printed on silk as a special presentation copy, and as such would have been framed. This must explain its survival despite its large size.
