- Curator's comments
- Text from 'Living with art: The Alexander Walker collection' (British Museum Press, 2020):
A small-scale drawing of a magpie’s head and neck, straining upwards, with its beak open. Using charcoal, gouache or oil stick, Gault makes drawings that explore the natural world. This is one of a series that she made of a magpie’s head. Gault trained at the Royal Academy Schools between 1977 and 1980 and is now based in Sussex. She has been represented by the Redfern Gallery since 1993.
