- Text from Martin Hopkinson, 'Italian Prints 1875-1975', BMP, 2007, no. 26:
It is likely that there is a literary or operatic source, such as Victorien Sardou's 'Tosca' of 1887, for this print of a veiled woman in mourning watching a funeral procession through the barred window of a prison. Conconi took other subjects from Boccaccio, from Gounod's Faust, and a play by Luigi Illica. The title, 'Capinera', is the Italian for the bird, the blackcap. The etching has the alternative titles, 'Sad moment', and, presumably ironically, 'Joyful hour'.
