The tomb was designed by Hubert Robert and the relief was carved by J.Ph. Le Sueur. It was installed at Ermenonville on 4 January 1780, and quickly became a site for tourist visits. Gandat was a minor local artist. The print was announced in the Paris papers December 1780 by Godefroy, who published it himself.
