- Curator's comments
- This drawing from the Fold series is discussed by Schwarz 2020, p. 42 and note 52.
It was purchased by David Brown from the Lisson Gallery, London.
LeWitt specified on all his Fold drawings that they were 'Not to be sold for more than $100.-'. This was a deliberate policy by LeWitt to prevent his artwork from being traded as a commodity and as fodder for financial speculation (Schwarz 2020, p. 22).
Label on back of original frame "Lisson Art Gallery London", frame inscribed by David Brown "For the British Museum lent to Swindon A.G. c.1975-6 until c. 1996. Jowlar Article in Daily or Sun Telegraph c.1976 jeering at this very picture (whilst in Swindon on loan) asking 'Is it Art?'"
