- According to David Brown, Hilton had punched the critic and curator Lawrence Alloway at an opening at Tooth's Gallery and then phoned Tooth the next morning to check on Alloway. The Grosvenor phone number written at the top of the sheet is Tooth's.
The original frame bore an undated label for the Imperial War Museum.
