- Curator's comments
- Delacroix's famous Romantic painting in the Musée du Louvre in Paris depicts the legendary Assyrian tyrant king, shortly before his death, coolly observing from his bed the destruction of his worldly goods, including his voluptuous slave women. Here Hilton ironically projects himself as Sardanapalus but naked and without possessions and surrounded by nude women attempting to revive him.
