- Curator's comments
- Balloning displays were a feature of London pleasure gardens in the decades after Lunardi's first ascent in England in 1784. According to the lettering the flight shown here set off at 3 p.m. on 12 August 1811 from Mermaid Gardens, Hackney and descended near Tilbury Fort, Essex, at 4.20 p.m. The print appeared nine days later.
