- Curator's comments
- Purchased from 'Pacific' at the White Cube, June-July 1998. 'Pacific' was the artist's first solo exhibition in London, and showed a series of small works on paper executed during a tour of the Pacific rim. His three month journey began in Los Angeles and took him to Las Vegas, Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra, buenos Aires, Montevideo, sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Berlin and london. he recorded "mental maps" as he travelled.
Large oils on canvas, 'Untitled: evasions', recorded the experience through objects collected on route such as postcards, newspapers and photographs, while the 'Untitled: mental maps' are painted on the spot and record the fluid process of travel itself.
