- Julia Emily Gordon was the daughter of a pupil of Girtin, Lady Julia Isabella Gordon. See article on their work in Country Life, 8 July 1939 and volume of etchings of views on the Rhine of 1836. Julia Emily Gordon also made a number of drawings at the family house, The Orchard, I of Wight in the 1830s.
Northcourt on the I of Wight was earlier the home of Richard Bull, the previous owner of many works in the Department of Prints and Drawings.
