This is one of several designs for a series of round glass-paintings of the Passion; the largest surviving group of the designs is in the National Museum, Stockholm. A glass roundel related to this sheet is in the Metropolitan Museum, New York (inv. no. 11.93.10; 'Painting on Light', no. 67), and is one of only two contemporary pieces of glass after the series known to have survived. See also BM. inv.nos. 1920,0420. 2 and 3 for further designs related to the series.
