- Curator's comments
- This drawing was made for an installation in 1987; a photograph of the installation was acquired with the drawing and is kept with it in a separate frame. The drawing was included in the artist's exhibition, 'Formative Processes' at the Gimpel Fils gallery in London, where it was purchased by the Museum. The installation comprised hundreds of gallons of black sump oil which formed a horizontal reflective plane in which the architecture of the room was mirrored. The viewer encountered a feeling of disorientation as the tapered ramp of the channel violating the rectangle was entered. The installation was purchased by the Saatchi Collection, London.
