- Basseti made a large number of drawings in this technique of Biblical subjects. The present example can be compared most closely to two drawings of parables at Windsor Castle, A. Blunt and E. Croft-Murray, 'Venetian Drawings of the XVII & XVIII Centuries in the Collection of Her Majesty the Queen at Windsor', London, 1957, nos. 5 and 6.

The mount bears the previous owner's stamp "coll. Ferretti di Castel Ferretto". The Duca Ferretti's acquired his collection of Italian drawings in the post-war period, it was dispersed at Christie's in 1996, when this drawing was purchased by the Museum.
