- Curator's comments
- The term 'monument expia-poire' in the caption is a pun and refers to the 'Monument expiatoire' erected during the Restoration to commemorate the execution of Louis XVI, which took place on the Place de La Concorde. Following the publication of the print Philipon was prosecuted for inciting regicide.
