- Curator's comments
- Henderson taught creative photography from 1951-54 and worked as an occasional photo-journalist. His interest in jazz, evident in this choice of Dizzy Gillespie for one of his portrait heads, also led to his designing posters for Ronnie Scott. The series of portrait heads executed between 1953-4 seem to have emerged from the ICA's 'Parallel of Life and Art', 1953 which involved both Eduardo Paolozzi and Henderson. Henderson had became a close associate of Paolozzi's in the late 1940s when they both experimented with collage.
