Curator's comments
Plate 50 in the complete edition of 'L'Oeuvre de Juste-Aurèle Meissonnier', a set of 118 plates after Meissonnier, published by Huquier from 1742-51. Many of the plates had previously been published in smaller sets: this was the second plate of the eighth set with six plates of designs for rococo goldsmiths' work, published between 1742/8. The set is purely ornamental, and is not after existing objects.
