Curator's comments
Plate 25 in the complete edition of 'L'Oeuvre de Juste-Aurèle Meissonnier', a set of 118 plates after Meissonnier, published by Huquier from 1742-51. Many of the plates had previously been published in smaller sets: this was the sixth plate of the fourth set with seven plates of rococo ornament in panels, first announced in 1733 and published in 1734. The sets is purely ornamental, and is not after existing objects.
