Kandinsky executed six drypoint compositions which Roethel assigns to the years 1913-14 on the basis of their affinity with paintings of the same date. Each one exists in only seven impressions and they were presumably executed in Munich prior to the artist's departure for Switzerland in 1914. A second series of drypoints appeared in 1916; these were printed in editions often in Stockholm, where Kandinsky spent the winter of 1915-16.
