The print shows, in reverse, a view in Frankfurt looking west along the Main away from the Untermainbrücke. In the distance is the Friedensbrücke, and on the right the Schaumainkai with the cupola of the Städel Art Institute. On the opposite bank are bathing establishments.

The worked-up preparatory pencil drawing for this print (von Wiese 409), and an earlier drawing, apparently taken on the spot (von Wiese 408), were both sold with the Piper collection of 1981; both are dated 1918. The curious circular eddy in the river and the matching curved cloud formation in the sky are only to be found in rudimentary form in the drawings.
