- Text from Frances Carey and Antony Griffiths, 'The Print in Germany 1880-1933', BM 1984, no. 214 :
This Proun composition is printed on paper similar to 1979,0623.26 and 1979,0623.27 and its appearance suggests that it was connected with the Proun portfolio, although it was not included in the 1921 issue.
The experimental nature of the first Proun lithographs renders them more appealing, in some ways, than the immaculate productions of Lounis and Campe, the printers of the Kestner Proun portfolio. Lissitzky, however, was more pleased with the printing in Hanover, precisely because it imparted a new technical perfection to his drawing. It was an easy transition to make from this attitude to a complete acceptance of the superiority of photomechanical reproduction; the artist's intervention in the manufacture of the work would no longer be necessary beyond supplying the initial idea.
