Hetzel et Paulin) 1842; containing 96 whole-page wood-engravings after Grandville of anthropomorphised animals, and other vignettes within the text including head and tailpieces, together with frontispiece showing a monkey writing the title of the book while a dog stands to the right licking a brush, other animals look in amazement from the left. Including preface, prologue, 14 stories and note to the reader, with table of contents and list of illustrations at the back. Bound in quarter red leather with gold and black ornamental tooling on spine and raised bands, marbled endpapers.
