An issue of 'The British Workman' with five images illustrative of a story; the first, Sam Adam and his son in George Wombwell's menagerie tent, Wombwell requesting Adams to put out his pipe, Adams's son looking at a large caged lion, two cages of monkeys above and two leopards in a cage behind, other visitors to the menagerie looking at the animals; the second, Adams's friend, Alfred Stanley pointing to two urchins in the street smoking their pipes during a rest from sweeping, their brushes in their hands, Adams and his son observing, a statue of Prince Albert beyond; the third, a well dressed gentleman, with his handkerchief over his mouth, looking in distaste at Adams, who gesticulates holding his pipe, his son at his side and a cloud of smoke around him, a smoking boy driving a donkey cart beyond; the fourth, Adams, his arm round his son, gesturing to two sides of smoked bacon, his friend Alfred Stanley looking on with delight, his wife behind with a plate in her hands looking down on her husband and son with affection; the fifth, a ferocious looking pig smoking a clay pipe in the midst of a cloud of smoke; another image by Knight of an infantry sergeant being reduced to the ranks for drunkenness by an officer, the officer cutting off the insignia darts from the sergeant's arm, other soldiers and officers observing, one reading the charge from a sheet of paper, buildings beyond; two small woodcuts of a postman and a child by a fire within the pamplet; illustrations to Kirton's "Sam Adams's Pipe" included in "The British Workman and Friend of the Sons of Toil" (1864);
