Seventeen images from "The Table Book"; the first, George Cruikshank and Gibert a Beckett on the dais at a political meeting, an easel between them, upon which the president is seated, numerous ladies and gentlemen seated in the audience on all sides listening to the arguments; the second, a table, cluttered with papers and drawings, lettered 'Contents'; the third, lovers dancing in a ring, through an arch supported by two Cupids standing on pedestals, clouds beyond; the fourth, a seal with an image of Cupid forging the literal bonds of matrimony between Lord Bateman and his wife; the fifth, a young boy in an enormous ruff and wide breeches, bearing a tray with a jug; the sixth, Old Parr seated on a high chair, his enormously long beard carried by small figures; the seventh, a man pulling on a long bell-pull, six men clinging to the rope who utilize bells in their careers, including a beadle, a policeman and a sailor; the eighth, a man puffing a pair of bellows into the air, writers of variosu branches of literature floating above him; the ninth, an unfortunate man being pushed into the river by the harness of a tow-horse pulling a barge, a bargeman looking on in shock; the tenth, a waiter bringing an enormous mutton chop to a table, where three hungry diners wait; the twelth, a poor man begging and a rich gentleman walking with a cane; the thirteenth, a Turk blowing a bubble from his long pipe, lettered with the letter A; the fourteenth, two boys cutting down the rag-doll sign of a rag and bones shop; the fifteenth, the young Alexander mounted on the bucking Bucephalus, his riding crop held in his mouth, the horse looking through his fore-legs at his shadow, shocked Macedonians beyond, Philip and Olympias seated on thrones and shaded by a parasol to the right, a Classical temple behind them; the sixteenth, Aeneas, guided by the Sibyl, enetering the Hades tavern, Tiresias greeting him, other shades drinking and smoking at tables beyond; illustration to "The Table Book" (1845)
