Four scenes; the first; a sailor giving the wife of his messmate his last shilling, her child at her side, buildings beyond, a vignette of a gentleman seated at a table in a bare room below; the second; a sailor staring amorously at a pretty girl selling watercress from a basket, buildings beyond, a vignette of the sailor and the girl dancing in the street coming out of a tavern below; the third; two veterans, drinking at a table and shaking each other's hands, one misssing an arm and the other with a wooden leg, the landlord of the tavern smoking a pipe and observing them with pleasure; the fourth; a sailor, carrying a club, kicking a fleeing man, a woman's leg visible as she runs from the room, broken crockery on the floor and a chair upturned; illustration to Dibdin's "Songs Naval and National" (1841)
