An anthropomorphic comet, shaped as a grinning head, the tail of the comet filled with representations of all the noteworthy events of the past year, including a battle of the Crimean War, Tories and Whigs changing governments, Chinese soldiers fighting, a horse race, the popularity of Uncle Tom's Cabin, Smith's ascent of Mont Blanc, a prize cattle show with large farm animals, the arrival of a giant anteater and the construction of the aquarium at London Zoo, the discovery of the North West Passage, the arrival of Assyrian lamassu to the British Museum, and many other scenes; the sun above and the moon below; illustration to "Cruikshank's Magazine" (1854)
